Highways and Skyways

You do like hills, don't you?  2010 saw the inaugural running of this 'self navigation' race.  The feedback the 63 runners was extremely encouraging; in fact so good we have been persuaded to make it bigger & better!   Brought to you by the organisers of  the Charmouth Challenge and the infamous Grizzly, HWSW is 16 miles and 8 peaks of glorious West Dorset coastal countryside.  The route also includes an ascent of the iconic Colmers Hill at Symondsbury.

Highways & Skyways -  16 Sept 2012

The start & finish will be at Charmouth Primary School, Lower Sea Lane, Charmouth, DT6 6PG.  

In 2012, there will be three course options, 8 miles; 10 miles & 17 miles.

Start time 09:30 but please allow time to collect your number.

The course is self navigation although route notes and a map of the 'nominal route will be available.  In 2012, there is the possibility of running in a 'guided' group with other runners of similar abilities.

Checkpoints won't have any means of proving that you've visited them other than some being manned and your number recorded.  We're not telling you which ones so you'll have to visit them all!   This is a very informal affair and you're only cheating yourself if you miss a checkpoint. Keep looking around you – some of the views are fantastic all round (weather permitting, of course!)

The school PTA will be organising activities for younger children from about noon, mainly for the school's pupils but runners' kids are welcome to join in.  There is obviously the beach and heritage centre before then.

There will be teas, cakes, pasties, beer and suchlike for post-race recovery.
